Why puppies lick you?

Puppies lick you because they are trying to figure out what you are. They are smelling you and tasting you to learn more about you. It is also a way for them to show their affection. They may also be trying to get your attention or show their submission.

Puppies often lick you when they are excited, or to give comfort. They may even be trying to tell you something that is on their mind, such as the need for food or to go outside. Whatever the reason, puppy licks can be both endearing and annoying!

Just like humans, puppies enjoy physical contact and affection. When they lick you it shows that they appreciate and love being around you. It’s a way of showing how much they care about you too! But if your puppy’s licking becomes excessive then it is best to take action. Too much licking can spread bacteria and cause infections so make sure to keep an eye out for this behavior.

If excessive licking persists then it is best to seek professional advice from a veterinarian or behavior specialist. They will be able to identify any underlying issue that could be causing the behavior and work with you on solutions. With patience and proper training, you can teach your puppy not to lick too much so that they can enjoy all the cuddles without worry of getting ill!
